Data Capture & Source Validation

Project scoping phase

We begin by identifying and acquiring all relevant source data for the project area. This includes Ordnance Survey base mapping, existing address records, local authority boundary data, and any client-supplied datasets. Each source is assessed for currency, completeness, and authority before being admitted to the processing pipeline.

Spatial Processing & Geocoding

Core processing phase

Raw address and location data is processed through our GIS pipeline. Each record is geocoded — assigned precise geographic coordinates — and projected into the correct coordinate reference system (British National Grid, OSGB36). Address records are matched against OS MasterMap building polygons to establish spatial relationships.

Post Code Assignment

Assignment phase

Each geocoded address is assigned a post code using our validated assignment algorithm. The algorithm cross-references Royal Mail PAF sector boundaries, OS MasterMap building footprints, and local authority administrative boundaries to determine the correct post code for each address. Edge cases — addresses near sector boundaries or in new development areas — are flagged for manual review.

Multi-Stage Quality Assurance

QA phase

Every dataset undergoes three layers of quality assurance. Automated validation rules check for format compliance, geographic plausibility, and referential integrity.
